Il disincanto.

Disenchantment.

Nel video Mute ho scelto di deformare l’immagine antica, medioevale della sirena, un’immagine negativa che la vedeva come una creatura terrificante.

Quelle leggende rappresentavano l’affermazione del mito della razionalità; la sirena incarnava la paura verso il piacere e l’ozio, ma anche il timore di abbandonarsi alla sfera irrazionale, emozionale, all’ inconscio. 

La sirena qui rappresentata, invece, canta con tutto il fiato che ha in corpo, ma non riesce a farsi sentire, il suo canto è diventato muto, perdendo ogni potere incantatore e riversando su se stessa un atteggiamento lascivo e ozioso.

In the video “Mute” I choose to disfigure the ancient, medieval image of the mermaid: a negative image represented by a terrifying creature.
Those legends represented the assertion of the myth of rationality; the mermaid symbolized the fear towards pleasure, together with the fear to let ourself go to the irrational, to the emotional, to the subconscious.
The mermaid here represented, instead, is singing loud but no one can hear her. Her song became mute, loosing any power of bewitching, lavishing on herself a lustful and lazy behavior.
